Revell/Monogram 1:48 KA-6D Intruder BuNo. 155583/AC-520, VA-75
The Kit
This build was done with the Revell A-6E converted to a KA-6D using the Cobra Company set. This set provided the centerline "buddy pod" and refueling drogue under the fuselage.
Aside from the resin parts glued on, some minor changes were done to the Navigator's position to represent a KA-6D cockpit. This involved the removal of some instruments.
For some greater detail, the Verlinden A-6E update set was used for the cockpit and the boarding ladders. At the time of this build, Revell was the only manufacturer with an A-6E
kit and since I wanted to fold the wings, I used modified Paragon EA-6B wingfolds. The only A-6 wingfold set available at the time were the Paragon set which represented a post Desert Storm composite wing.
The kit raised panel lines were removed and re-scribed. Crew figures are from the Hasegawa deck crew set. Painting was done with Gunze Sangyo acrylic paints.
At the time of this build, there were no Desert Storm era decals for VA-75. Therefore, decals were sourced from various sheets and with the tail fin markings custom made.
