In late 1990 several Nimrod MR.2s were fitted with an underwing GEC "Sandpiper" FLIR turret under the starboard wing, MAWS (4 positions - both sides of the "stinger" MAD tail, starboard side - nose of the fuel tank, port side - blanked off searchlight)
BOZ-107 chaff/flare pod under the port wing and a Towed Radar Decoy (the TRD was in the large pod on the top of the fin)
under the unofficial designation MR.2(GM) - where GM stood for "Gulf Mod".

Nimrod R.1s were also sent to Gulf, to cooperate with US RC-135V/W.
All 3 aircraft rotated through RAF Akrotiri, with normally only 2 available at a time.
