Notes from Andrew O:

The term Lynx Mk.1GT was an informal name, used for Lynx with an interim fit when the AH1 was being converted to AH7, when early marks of engine from the AH1 were fitted to AH7 standard airframes. The correct designation was AH7. All the Lynx we took on Op Granby were AH7, with the uprated main rotor gearboxes and clockwise tailrotors. They also left Detmold with the new BERP main rotor blades and uprated engines. From what I can recall, the BERP blades were replaced with the old-style blades in anticipation of running out of stocks of the new blades, as Westlands couldn't build them quickly enough to provide a stock. There were plenty of the older blades in service, and the worry was about sand erosion eating-up the composite BERP blades. Some aircraft may have been retrofitted with the earlier model Rolls Royce Gem engine if there were no uprated engines available. Prior to the start of hostilities, Westlands had built and supplied enough sand-filters for the engines, by bringing out of retirement some of the older craftsmen who still had the skills. All Lynx were fitted with TOW missile launchers and thermal imaging sights. The difference in colour-schemes between some of the airframes - two-tone sand, and sand and olive, is the result of some cabs going to Wildenrath or Laarbruch for professional painting, while the bulk went through a quick process in 659 Sqn's hangar, which involved three shifts of painters from 71 Aircraft Workshops REME, and one crew of groundcrew from 4 Regt working around the clock.

Notes from Nigel Lewis:

XZ617/Q - A truly great aircraft. Took everything we threw at her. 8 tow missiles, full fuel, 10000 maps, a GPMG 2000 rounds, plus our kit. Astonishing.
